Happenstance.

Circumstance without planned outcomes.

My name is Harvie Brydon

It is somewhat difficult to speak about oneself—so instead I will try to give a snapshot of who I am and how I got my name. How I think. What I have done, and the current journey I am on.

How I Got My Name
When I was born my father sought the advice of teacher and lecturer of ‘Kabalarian Philosophy’. My father wanted advice on choosing my name based on my birthdate and time of birth, The teacher replied with a letter stating I would be a creative and artistic person and should be encouraged to follow that direction. He also provided a list of half a dozen names that were based on numerology and Kabalarian Phylosophy.

The Theory is: Your name reveals traits. Your date of birth reveals the type of person you could become. This Kabalarian teacher’s letter to my father also advised that I should be encouraged to only sign my name in full and not to abbreviate it. This Kabalarian teachers advice is likely the reason my parents supported my wanting to go to an Art College (Ontario College of Art) after graduating high school. I have always loved drawing, sculpting and painting, as well as, a variety of other creative pursuits like writing and photography and constructing and making things. I also like inventing games.

How I approach exploring creative ideas

When a peculiar idea zips through my brain…something stirs, maybe I react immediately, but sometimes it hibernates and awakens at a time when I have made some connection with it.
I tend to explore the kind of ideas that fill me with an itch and anticipation—to pursue and explore what is teasing my mind.
It is this stirring of the imagination that sets me off. I don’t have to know how it will turn out. I just have to go there and dig in..

Here are a few of the things I have done over the years:
– Graduted from the Ontario College of Art (AOCA)
– worked in the movie industry
– was a book illustrator & designer
– was an agent for artists
– owned a design firm
– owned a publishing company
– was a tenured professor of advertising design and marketing communications at a community college

NOW –A sort of exploration of self. . . the artist.
This exploration will be a process of determination to push and challenge myself—to explore, delve, practise and question—what is important, relevant and possible. That is my current path and journey .
