Portfolio 1: The Bum Project
It all begins with a very simple vague idea. It maybe that you are flirting with something different, something edgy, or something a bit cheeky. Then your idea starts to have legs.
This project started with a small doodle about 2 x 2 inches, that I was thinking of for a simple stone sculpture. I had a nice piece of pinkish stone I was wanting to do something with. I had intended to do a simple shape and just shape the stone to accentuate the lines/curves of a female bum. When I enlarge the drawing about double the size I started to fill in the bum with design elements. The next thing I new I did my first painting Bum #1 (24 X 24 inches).
I did my first drawing in Pencil with no colour added and the fun of figuring out colour happened as I progressed.
I got quite excited about the prospect about doing another and another. I currently have four—but have basic line drawing for two more. Each of the following bum paintings I went through the same process—a simple pencil drawing and figured out the colour application as I progressed.
